CITY OF YAKIMA, WASHINGTON
The City of Yakima is seeking a new Chief of Police. Yakima is located in South Central Washington, southeast of Mount Rainier National Park and is the county seat of Yakima County, Washington. Yakima leads the way to the Cascade Mountains and provides wonderful opportunities in the fruitful Yakima Valley. The 300 days of sunshine, four seasons and breathtaking sights provide for exceptional recreational opportunities and outdoor activities. The new Chief will administer a budget of approximately $22 million and lead a dedicated, professional staff of 177 employees, 132 of whom are sworn officers. The Chief is supported by three Captains and leads a Department organized into five major Divisions – Criminal Investigations, Services, Uniformed, Special Ops and Administrative Services. A Captain manages the Criminal Investigations and Services Divisions. The Uniformed and Special Ops Divisions are also managed by Captains. Lieutenants oversee functions within the Investigations, Uniformed and Special Ops Divisions and the Professional Standards/Internal Investigations Division. Yakima seeks a highly respected, seasoned and accomplished law enforcement executive with significant career experience with traditional community/problem-oriented policing within a multi-cultural environment, youth-gang intervention and suppression initiatives and management/labor relations. The successful candidate will be a mature leader, consensus builder and active listener who values the opportunity to take a good Department to a new level of growth and service delivery. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to police or public administration and a Masters Degree is desirable. Washington State Police Academy Certification or its equivalent is required. The salary range of $99,942-$121,511 is under review, will be negotiable and competitive for the position and includes an attractive benefits package with a 2%@53 LEOFF II retirement (highest five years). Yakima also provides a 3% Deferred Compensation Program.
