The City of Wentzville, located only forty minutes from downtown St. Louis, offers a small town environment with convenient access to cultural, art, and sports attractions known worldwide. The Mayor and Board of Aldermen are seeking a talented public works director to facilitate the significant growth which will continue in Wentzville.


Qualified candidates must possess either a bachelorís degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university or have a comparable combination of education and practical experience. A masterís degree is preferred. Candidates should have ten years practical engineering experience and have/be eligible for registration as a professional engineer in the State of Missouri. 

Core Competencies required include:

        Solid financial management / budgeting skills

     ∑        Experience in grant proposal development and grant administration

     ∑        Extensive experience in infrastructure development to support growth

     ∑        Growth management experience

     ∑        Generates results through effective use of performance appraisal system (Wentzville is transitioning to a pay-for-performance system)

     ∑        Solid understanding of municipal water/wastewater systems

     ∑        Capital projects management / contract administration

     ∑        Knowledge of Federal highway regulations

     ∑        Knowledge of storm water management regulations


The salary range for the public works director is $81,799 to $114,521 DOQ. A market competitive fringe benefits plan will be provided as well. Reasonable relocation expense reimbursement may be negotiated.
