Vernon D. Martin, AICP, was most recently the Executive Director for the Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center having retired after a
highly successful thirty-nine year career. Mr. Martin holds a B.S. degree in Business from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Regional and City Planning degree from the University of Oklahoma.
He is a member of American Institute of Planners, the International City and County Management Association and the Society of Human Resources Management.
Mr. Martin has directed technical and management services to local
governments and has directed the delivery of various government services to local governments. These have included strategic long-range planning, economic, business, and community development; land use planning and
zoning administration; historic preservation; public works; senior citizen services; tourism; and marketing and public relations. Mr. Martin has
developed orientation manuals and procedures for Board members and staff as well as personnel policies and standard operating procedures for local
governments, non-profit organizations and regional planning organizations.
Mr. Martin is past President of the National Association of Development
Organizations (NADO), and he served for several years as the representative for Georgia on the National Executive Director’s Advisory Committee of the
National Association of Regional Councils (NARC). He also received the National Executive Directors Award from both NADO and NARC, the only
Executive Director in the nation to have received these awards from both organizations. Mr. Martin also had a successful thirty-three year career in the military, retiring as a full Colonel.
