DIRECTOR OF TUCSON WATER

The City of Tucson is seeking a dynamic and progressive leader as the Director of Southern Arizona’s largest municipal utility, the City of Tucson Water Department. Tucson Water supplies high quality water to approximately 250,000 customers both within and outside the City. The City is seeking a forward-looking strategic leader, capable of creating and implementing a vision to provide the water necessary to support the community’s goals for a healthy, growing, yet sustainable Tucson.

The Director of Tucson Water is a vital member of the City’s Executive Leadership Team. The Director is responsible for managing the largest enterprise department in the City with an operating budget of $143 million and a capital budget of $72 million in FY 2012, and with a highly qualified staff of 550.

The City of Tucson has a Council-Manager form of government. The City Manager directs the organization of 4900 staff with an operating budget of $426 million in the General Fund and $274 in Enterprise Funds in FY 2012. There is currently an Interim City Manager.

Tucson Water is responsible for providing high quality water through distribution systems for potable water and reclaimed water. More information can be found at  www.tucsonaz.gov/water

The Director is responsible for complete management of customer service functions, operations, maintenance, securing water resources and strategic planning. This also includes financial, engineering and water quality assurance.

The ideal candidate will be respected professionally, with over 10 years of progressive management experience in directing, planning, and administering the operation of a large water utility. At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business or Public Administration, Public Management, Engineering, or a related sci-business or a related field is desired.

The selected candidate will be required to establish residency within the City of Tucson city limits.

The starting salary will be dependent upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. The current salary range is $90,147 - $151,424. The City of Tucson offers employees an excellent fringe benefit package, including a defined benefit pension plan, deferred compensation, a voluntary 401(a) plan, health, dental and life insurance, and sick and vacation leave accruals. The Director of Water is also eligible to receive relocation assistance and a car allowance.
