This is an outstanding opportunity to become Executive Director of an exceptional organization and to replace a highly successful Executive Director who has been with the League for 31 years and has announced his retirement.

The successful candidate for the next Executive Director of TML is expected to possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration or a related field with a related Master’s degree preferred. Five years of experience in a related field with equal responsibilities is acceptable.

The Executive Director of the Texas Municipal League is appointed by and reports to the TML Board of Directors. Responsibilities include administering policies established by the TML Board; developing and implementing administrative procedures; coordinating and directing all departments and staff operations; selecting, developing, and effectively utilizing staff; and overall supervision of projects, financing, and intergovernmental relationships.

Austin is a forward-thinking city that has gained global attention for its technological innovation and business growth in various industry sectors.

The Texas Municipal League (TML) exists solely to provide services to Texas cities. Since its formation in 1913, the League’s mission has remained the same; to serve the needs and advocate the interests of its members. The TML Constitution states that the purpose of the League is to “render services which individual cities have neither time, money nor strength to do alone”.

Membership in the League is voluntary and is open to any city in Texas. From the original 14 members, TML’s membership has grown to more than 1,100 cities. Over 18,000 mayors, councilmembers, city managers, city attorneys, and department heads are member officials of the League by virtue of their cities’ participation. Associate memberships are available to private sector organizations and companies that strive to provide quality services to municipal government. There are currently over 400 Associate Members.

Today, the Texas Municipal League is the largest and most successful organization of its kind in the nation. TML has 1,112 member cities, an all-time high. TML completely occupies a 120,000 square foot building in Austin owned by TML’s affiliated risk pools.

The starting salary for the new Executive Director of the Texas Municipal League will be market competitive depending upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. In addition, a competitive benefits package will be provided to the successful candidate.  Reasonable relocation expenses will be paid by TML for the successful candidate.
