Tifton is seeking a City Manager to replace a long-term City Manager who has
retired. The City Manager of Tifton is responsible for effectively managing and
providing high quality City services. The ideal candidate for City Manager of
Tifton should be committed to provide the highest quality of service with
honesty and integrity to the Tifton community. Through teamwork and cooperation,
the new City Manager will strive to effectively provide the quality of life
desired by the community. The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's
degree in Public Administration or a related field from an accredited four-year
college or university. A related Master's degree is preferred. The successful
candidate should also possess a minimum of seven years of progressively
responsible experience in local government administration, or any combination of
education and experience that produces the required knowledge, skills and
abilities. Other characteristics of the successful candidate are a person who
will make a commitment to the City, someone with experience in a community of
similar size, a person who can hit the ground running and someone who will
encourage Department Heads to use their own good ideas. The City Council is
interested in a person who will be comfortable in a diverse environment, a
person who is diplomatic with excellent interpersonal and communications skills,
a decision maker, a team player and someone who is interested in maintaining and
developing quality growth for the City. The next City Manager of Tifton should
be a true professional, a secure individual, someone with some experience with
performance measures, someone who is accountable, have a "can do" attitude, have
a high energy level, be business-oriented and stand behind City staff. A City
Manager, Deputy or Assistant with local government management experience in
Georgia would be a plus. The new City Manager of Tifton will be appointed by and
responsible to City Council. The City Council appoints the City Manager for an
indefinite term. The City Manager will be appointed solely on the basis of that
person's executive and administrative qualifications. The incumbent should be a
highly responsible, high-energy individual, able to coordinate the various City
activities and functions and supervise all operating Departments of the City of
Tifton. The City Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer of the City and is
responsible to the City Council for the administration of all City affairs
placed in the City Manager's charge. The City Manager is the Chief

Tifton City Council believes in open, honest government. It also believes in
providing positive leadership for the community and in practicing a spirit of
cooperation and coordination with other area governments. The governing body of
the City of Tifton is the City Council. The City Charter of Tifton created a
City Council-Manager form of government wherein citizens elect four City Council
Members by district and a Mayor at-large. The members of the City Council serve
for terms of four years and until their respective successors are elected and
qualified. The City Council appoints a City Manager and delegates authority and
responsibility to the City Manager to ensure that services are provided in a
timely and cost effective manner. In addition, the City Council delegates
authority and responsibility to the City Manager to carry out the policies of
City Council, to prepare and implement an annual budget, and to manage the City
workforce and day-to-day operations of the City. The total budget for The City
of Tifton is $38.2 million. The starting salary for City Manager of Tifton will
be market competitive, depending on the experience, qualifications and salaried
history of the selected individual. In addition, the City of Tifton provides an
