The City of Sun Valley, Idaho (Population 1,406 permanent – 5,000 seasonal) is seeking a City Administrator. Sun Valley is best known as a preeminent year-round resort in the mountains of south central Idaho. Alpine and Nordic skiing, single track and road biking routes, mountain climbing and a rich array of arts and cultural events are integral to the City’s and region’s tourism economy.   Sun Valley is a statutory municipal corporation operating under a strong Mayor/Council form of government. The City Administrator is appointed by the Mayor with Council approval, and receives general administrative direction from the Mayor for providing guidance and direction to a full time staff of 27 and 20 volunteer firefighters.  The total budget is $5.4 million. The City seeks a mature, seasoned public sector manager with a track record of success in a well-managed community of comparable size or larger. Candidates should possess at least eight years of progressively responsible local government experience administering a budget, police, fire, streets and community development/planning functions, in addition to five years of human resource management experience. A Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, planning or related field is required and a Master’s degree is strongly preferred. Previous experience in a mountain resort setting is a plus; however, candidates lacking previous resort experience but offering an advantageous combination of education and work experience may also receive serious consideration.
