The County seat of Sumter County, Americus, was a major center in the early days and the site of three hospitals for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Whether you buy the proposition that the town was founded by high spirited “merry cusses” or that it was named for explorer Amerigo Vespucci, Americus is a history lesson in pioneer spirit.

The five-member Sumter County elected Board of County Commissioners is the principal governing body of Sumter County government. The Commissioners are committed to delivering honest leadership, quality service and sound management to enhance the aspirations, opportunities and quality of life for all the citizens of Sumter County.

The starting salary will be market competitive, depending on the experience and qualifications. In addition, the County provides an excellent fringe benefit package and will provide reasonable relocation expenses to the successful candidate.
