This is an exceptional opportunity to provide leadership and management to one of the top communities in the country. Sandy Springs is a newly formed City of approximately 90,000 population in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a proven, dedicated and experienced individual for its first City Manager. An individual who has a background in city management in a fairly large city and who is a strong leader, manager and administrator is preferred. Corporate private sector experience in combination with high level public sector experience would be ideal. An individual who has started a new organization, major project or venture would also be highly desirable. The successful individual will also possess as a minimum a degree from a four-year college or university with a major in Public Administration or a related field. A graduate degree is preferred. The ideal candidate should possess at least five years of progressively responsible experience in city administration/management or equivalent experience involving private/public entities. Possession of a graduate degree may be substituted for up to one year of experience. The ideal candidate for the Sandy Springs City Manager position should possess thorough knowledge of municipal administration and management including financial and operations management, contractor relations, and general management. The Mayor shall appoint, subject to the confirmation by a majority of City Council, for an indefinite term, an officer whose title shall be City Manager. The City Manager shall serve at the pleasure of the City Council. The Mayor shall be directly elected at-large by a majority of voters and shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the City and presiding officer of the City Council. The initial election of Mayor and City Council will occur on November 8, 2005, with swearing in of the new officials and initial assumption of office to occur on December 1, 2005. Sandy Springs is a community of 35 square miles located in Fulton County. The starting salary for the position will be market competitive or better and will likely be in the range of $150,000 to $175,000. In addition, the City expects to provide an excellent fringe benefit package and reasonable relocation expenses to the successful candidate.
