Our client is a local government serving a South Florida coastal community with a population of approximately 300,000.  The community encompasses over 550 square miles and is surrounded by over 35 miles of shoreline.  Our client seeks an exceptional leader for their position of Director of Finance. 

The Director of Finance is responsible for providing overall strategic leadership and direction for the Finance Department with over 33 full time equivalent positions.  This is an executive level position that manages, directs and oversees the Finance Department activities consisting of financial administration, accounting, automated systems, funds management, financial reporting, accounts payable, and payroll services for the overall organization with 2,100 employees and an annual operating budget exceeding $850 million.

The successful candidate will have a vision for the future and be an open/transparent and collaborative communicator who has successfully created client-centered environments that value operational effectiveness. S/he will have: a history of executive level experience and achievement in a similarly complex organization; the ability to work with Executives and professional staff on all major issues, and build common purpose in a diverse community through effective collaboration and information sharing; and proven experience working with internal and external constituencies.  

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

        Prepares the Finance Department Budget & oversees the work plan.

        Administers financial and reporting function of the entire organization.

        Oversees debt activities of the overall organization.

        Provides assistance to fiscal planning.

        Prepares financial and administrative reports to the policy makers.

        Oversees and directs the organizationís investment portfolio. 

Desired Skills & Experience:

      S/he will have a mature, influential, and collaborative leadership style, plus a history of success leading the finances of a large organization.

      Bachelors degree in accounting/finance, or business from an accredited college/university.  An advanced degree is preferred.


      Five to seven years of increasingly more responsible experience in governmental accounting and finance is required.  Experience in Florida local government is highly desirable and must have, or have the ability to obtain, a current Florida CPA license.

      A minimum of five years of administrative and supervisory responsibilities is required. 

Compensation:  The salary range for the Director of Finance is $83,600 to $133,661 D.O.Q. coupled with a generous Executive Benefit Plan in addition to a benefit package which includes health, dental, vision, vacation and sick leave, disability, deferred compensation, and more.
