Full-service local government operating under the Mayor/Council/Administrator form of government with 375 FTE employees and two labor unions. The Development Services Department Director works under the direction of the City Administrator, coordinates all building approval processes; all municipal planning and land development processes, including subdivisions, zoning, and building permits and inspections. Salary negotiable depending on experience and qualifications in the range of $75,000 to $90,000 per annum, plus competitive fringe benefit program. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in economic development, urban and regional planning, business or public administration, engineering, or directly related field, with seven years of directly related experience in municipal planning, zoning and code enforcement, or land use management, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. A Master’s degree is preferred. AICP designation is required. A valid New Mexico driver’s license with an insurable driving record is also required. Requires knowledge of municipal and regional planning, land use, and economic development theory and practice; knowledge of building codes, inspection practices, and fundamentals of construction; ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex and sensitive documents.
