The City of Phoenix is seeking in its Planning and Development Director an innovative strategic thinker who is efficient, effective and responsive for moving the Department forward for the future.
The Planning and Development Director is responsible for organizing, planning, and managing the activities of the Planning and Development Department of the city. Duties include working with the Planning Commission, Village Planning Committees, residents, departmental representatives and the offices of the Mayor, City Council and City Manager to resolve issues relating to city planning and development.
Phoenix is Arizonaís capital and the sixth largest city in the United States with more than 1.4 million residents within 519 square miles. Phoenix was one of the first cities in the nation to adopt the council-manager form of government in 1913 through a public vote approving a new City Charter. Phoenix is also the largest city in the country with the council-manager form of government.
Throughout its rapid growth, the City has had a long history of political and organizational stability, with three City Managers during the last 34 years.

The City of Phoenix is seeking an innovative and collaborative leader and manager to be its Director of Planning and Development. Candidates will be able to demonstrate proven experience at an executive level for a public sector planning and building development department. Significant experience in urban or city planning, land use, development, engineering, construction project management, and/or public administration in a fast-paced and growth-oriented environment is pertinent. Highly desirable is a strong background in both planning and development. A Bachelorís degree in Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Political Science, Business or Public Administration or a related field is required, while a Masterís degree is preferred.
The salary range for the Planning and Development Director position is $102,690 - $161,782, with the starting salary negotiable depending on the selected individualís qualifications and match with the desired attributes sought by the City. The City offers an outstanding fringe benefit package. The City will pay reasonable and customary relocation expenses for the next Planning and Development Director who will be required to live within the City of Phoenix within 24 months after the date of hire and residency must be maintained.
