Strategically located in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, the County is home to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Board of County Commissioners seeks a professional manager to provide strategic and operational management. The county values its excellent resources for public education, transparent and participative local government, strong commitment to human rights and quality of life, environmental protection, open space and agricultural preservation, sustainable development and superior services to residents. The County has had two managers since 1990. The budget for fiscal year 2008-09 was $183M. There is a professional staff of more than 840 full-time employees. The Manager is appointed by a 7-member Board of County Commissioners. The ideal candidate possesses experience with an engaged and knowledgeable citizenry, the skills to guide the development of strategic plans and capital improvement initiatives, and the capacity to manage organizational change and sustainability. The candidate has a record of successful communications, intergovernmental relations, team-building, and staff development. The candidate is a proven consensus builder and clear communicator with strengths in facilitating and streamlining governmental processes and organizational operations. The candidate has advised and assisted governing boards in forming well-rounded, responsive, and affordable policy initiatives. The candidate displays both environmental sensitivity and a sense of social justice and has economic development experience as a county manager or other responsible administrator.
Competitive salary DOQ, plus excellent fringe benefits. Bachelors degree (Master’s degree preferred) with a minimum of 10 years of experience in county government management with three years as the chief executive or administrative officer or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
