The City of Oakland Park is located in Broward County in Southeast Florida. It has a population of 42,000. A major focus in Oakland Park is redevelopment. The focus of the City redevelopment is a 1,007-acre Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) with the potential for more than $100 million worth of projects. The City of Oakland Park CRA plan was created by such renowned firms as Carter Burgess, EDSA and Iler Planning Group. City staff has been successful in securing funding to change the face of Oakland Park. The Community Development Director reports directly to the City Manager. The Community Development Department encompasses Planning, Building, and Code enforcement. The Department has 24 employees. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Growth Management, Engineering or a related fired. A Master's degree is preferred. The candidate will have at least eight years experience in municipal, county or regional planning with significant experience in community redevelopment, development regulations, zoning administration and code enforcement. Management experience is important. The starting salary range for the position is up to $107,000 depending on qualifications.
