Budget: $49 million. 330 FTE employees; 147 in Public Safety. Governing body composed of Mayor and six City Council members elected for four-year terms. The City of North Myrtle Beach is seeking a highly qualified individual to become its Director of Public Safety. This position is hired by and reports to the City Manager and is responsible for providing leadership, management and direction to the City’s Public Safety Department. Requires strong leadership skills, based on team-building, motivation and positive/effective communications. Requires experience in community policing/partnerships, fire suppression and all facets of public safety organization. Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Public Safety or Law Enforcement. Related Master’s degree preferred. Public Safety experience preferred. Requires six to nine years of experience in law enforcement and fire safety at the management level or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills/abilities. Graduation from FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute or National Fire Academy desirable. Must possess South Carolina driver’s license/completed required coursework at South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Salary range $76,188 to $121,901 depending upon experience and qualifications.
