Located on the Atlantic Ocean along the South Carolina coastal area known as the AGrand Strand@, the City of North Myrtle Beach comprises approximately 13 square miles with nine miles of beautiful coastline. Permanent population of the City is 12,000 with a summer peak of up to 100,000. The Horry County population is 202,425. North Myrtle Beach is largely supported by the tourism industry but is known for its family beach atmosphere, fishing piers, wide sandy beaches, and championship golf courses. The City of North Myrtle Beach operates under a Council/Manager form of government with an elected Mayor and six Council members. The City employs 350 people. The City has many long range goals such as insuring that the City has adequate infrastructure to meet current and future demands for service as the City grows. The Assistant City Manager, under limited supervision, manages and administers the City’s personnel system, exercises responsibility for recruiting, employee training and development, employee orientation, employee wage and salary administration, pay-for-performance administration, management of the Fringe Benefit Program and personnel records. The Assistant City Manager assists the City Manager with administrative functions such as promoting public relations, administering programs, monitoring/ensuring legal compliance, monitoring grants received and more. He/she reports to the City Manager. The successful candidate for the position of Assistant City Manager for the City of North Myrtle Beach should have a Bachelor’s degree in Personnel or Public Administration, with a related Master’s degree preferred. Five to seven years experience in local government as an assistant city manager or comparable administrative/managerial experience is preferred. Or the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. The successful candidate should possess excellent communications skills, be a team player, have good organizational and project management skills, possess good interpersonal skills and be up with the latest approaches to the use of technology in the workplace. The expected starting salary for the new Assistant City Manager will be in the range of $82,000 to $131,215 annually depending on experience and qualifications, with an automobile allowance and other excellent fringe benefits.
