The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (“Metro Fire”) is seeking an experienced, dynamic leader to serve as its Chief Deputy. In January 2010, the Chief Deputy will be appointed Fire Chief of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District upon the retirement of the current Fire Chief. Metro Fire serves nearly 640,000 citizens over a 417 square mile area throughout Sacramento and Placer Counties, including the Cities of Citrus Heights and Rancho Cordova. Metro Fire is the seventh-largest fire agency in California with 42 strategically located fire stations and 750 personnel. The District operates within a very diverse environment from a service delivery perspective; it responds to emergencies in rural, suburban and urban settings and the diversity of emergency incidents requires its firefighters to be proficient in wildland firefighting, structural firefighting, crash fire rescue, technical rescue, swift water rescue, hazardous materials mitigation and paramedic medical services. The ideal candidate will be a proven fire services manager who has progressed steadily through the ranks and has the ability to develop a comprehensive understanding of the agency’s internal operations and the needs of local and regional communities. Successful candidates will possess the ability to foster constructive labor/management relations and will have consistently demonstrated a proactive approach to creating mutually beneficial partnerships throughout the fire service and regions in which he/she has served. Candidates may qualify with a combination of education, training and experience with a minimum of 15 years of full time fire service employment with 3 years or higher at the level of Battalion Chief rank or higher in a fire department or district of 300 personnel or larger. The equivalent of an Associate of Arts or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in fire science, business, public administration, personnel management or a closely related field is desirable.
