Residents are involved in local government and development standards and expectations regarding service delivery are high. The City of Mason is seeking for its next City Manager someone with proven leadership and technical skills, and someone who is adept in applying modern management principles and practices to the day -to-day issues facing a growing municipality. The City prefers that its new City Manager be an individual who has advanced knowledge of the strategies, structure, operations and processes of municipal government. The successful individual will also possess, as a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a major in Public Administration or a related field. A Master’s degree in Public Administration or a related field is preferred. An ICMA Credentialed Public Manager would also be a plus. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of seven to 10 years of experience in City government, including significant, successful and progressive experience as a local government chief executive or assistant manager in an organization of comparable size and complexity or larger. Experience in a diverse community with high expectations and one which is experiencing rapid growth is highly desirable. The ideal candidate for the Mason City Manager position should have the ability to select, motivate and develop personnel to perform their duties at the highest level, in a safe, efficient and purposeful manner. In addition, the new City Manager should possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, Department Directors and City Council Members. The successful candidate should also have the ability to build effective and cooperative relationships with other local, county, state, federal and similar agencies and organizations, and with the citizens of the community and the news media. The City Manager is appointed to office by a vote of at least five members of the Council. The City Manager serves at the pleasure of the Council and may be removed from office, without cause, by a vote of at least five members of the Council. The Council fixes the compensation of the City Manager. The City Manager is appointed solely on the basis of his/her executive and administrative qualifications, and need not be a resident of the City of Mason at the time of appointment, but should become a resident of Mason within six months after appointment unless residence outside the City of Mason is approved by a vote of at least five Council members. The City of Mason is considered one of the most desirable communities in the Cincinnati metropolitan area and has earned a reputation as a progressive, innovative community. The City is a destination for corporations seeking a thriving business environment and for families desiring attractive neighborhoods and nationally ranked schools. Mason is located in the southwest portion of Ohio, 22 miles northeast of Cincinnati and 28 miles south of Dayton. The City of Mason, located in Warren County, has a current population of 30,000, with a daytime population of 30,000. The city’s population at build-out will be approximately 45,000. Mason is one of Ohio’s fastest growing cities. Its 18 square miles are now about 85 percent developed with a mix of businesses, commercial areas, and attractive residential neighborhoods with a wide range of housing types. A comprehensive planning process for the development of the City has helped preserve its small-town feel even as it has evolved into a modern city with attractive amenities. The City of Mason has a current annual all-funds operating budget of $100 million. There are 170 full-time and over 300 part-time staff. The starting salary for the City Manager of the City of Mason will be market competitive, depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected individual. In addition, the City provides an automobile allowance and an excellent fringe benefit package to the successful candidate.
