CITY OF LAKE WORTH, FLORIDA
Lake Worth (population 37,000) is ideally located on the Atlantic Ocean in Palm Beach County, 60 miles north of Miami. Lake Worth has old-Florida charm with sub- tropical climate, many National Register buildings, and 5 historic districts. This is a dynamic, diverse, multi-cultural city with a strong social and environmental consciousness. The active, vibrant downtown has retained its human scale.
The City has 395 full time employees and an annual all funds budget of $138 million. Lake Worth operates a municipal power plant, which accounts for the size of the budget. The City provides the full range of municipal services, except for wastewater treatment, and recently moved from a municipal police department to a contract with the County Sheriff to provide police services.
The current City Manager’s decision to move to another city has created an opportunity for a successful, seasoned manager with vision and exceptional management and interpersonal skills. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, finance, management or related field & seven years executive-level experience. City Manager and Florida experience is preferred and experience with a municipal power operation would be a plus.
The City has major planning and project mgmt issues and increasing financial constraints, so
competency in financial and project management is essential. Skill in staff management and development, consensus-building, and strong customer-service orientation are required. The ideal candidate will value diversity, full transparency in government, and the principles of energy conservation and sustainability. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $140,000 - $160,000 depending on qualifications. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
