LONG COUNTY, GEORGIA
Long County is located in the southeast coastal region of Georgia. The county is adjacent to Ft. Stewart, the home of the 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. The northeastern tip of the county is occupied by part of this sprawling military installation which also occupies significant portions of neighboring counties. The county expects to receive additional growth due to pending increases of additional troops and their families. The Altamaha River forms the boundary between Long and its southern neighbor, Wayne County. Long County is within the MPO headquartered in the city of Hinesville in Liberty County. The estimated population (2004) is 10,928. The City of Ludowici, the county seat, has an estimated population of 1,500.
The County Administrator is responsible for day-to-day management of the County Department Heads and staff, totaling 32 employees. The total budget for 2008 is 5.2 million.
The successful candidate must have a solid background in Human Resources, Budgeting, Team Leadership skills, Financing and Economic Development. Communication skills, including strong verbal and written ability, are necessary.
The successful candidate must insure that there is an open and supportive relationship with the Board of Commissioners recognizing their responsibilities to the citizens. Candidates should have experience in dealing with growth and how to successfully advise and recommend land use policies, as well as zoning and other related growth management issues.
The County Administrator of Long County will be appointed by and responsible to the County Board of Commissioners. The Commission appoints the Administrator for an indefinite term. The County Administrator will be appointed solely on the basis of that person’s executive and administrative qualifications.
In addition: the County Administrator shall assume the following management requirements including, but not limited to:

Initiate and carry to completion special programs as directed by the Board of Commissioners. | |

Attend all County Commission meetings and participate in the discussions, when appropriate. | |
|
Provide guidance and assistance to Department heads and County agencies as needed. | |
|
Interact with officials and representatives of other governmental entities. | |
|
Attend various meetings, conferences and other programs. | |
|
Prepare, justify and maintain the County’s Operating Budget and Capital Budget, and monitor expenditures. | |
|
Have experience in writing successful grant applications | |
|
Submit a complete report on the finances and administrative activities to the Board of Commissioners at the end of each fiscal year. | |
|
Generate other reports as required, concerning the operations of the County Departments, offices, and agencies. | |
|
Advise the County Board of Commissioners as to the financial conditions and future needs of the County, and to make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners concerning the affairs of the County. | |
|
Ensure that County Commission agendas for meetings are properly and timely prepared. | |
|
Keep the Commission aware of scheduling matters. | |
|
Perform other duties as required and assigned. |
The successful candidate should have an undergraduate degree in Public or Business Administration, or a related field. A graduate degree is preferred with a successful track record of at least five (5) to eight (8) years in city/county management experience.
