Historic, independent City of Littleton, south side of Denver metropolitan area, population over 41,500, seeks a talented and experienced municipal attorney to serve as general counsel to the City Council and advisor to City departments and citizen boards. Appointed by 7-member, nonpartisan City Council. Office includes an assistant city attorney, prosecutor and two paraprofessionals. City attorney retired after 30 years of dedicated service. The City of Littleton is a desirable workplace with very stable Council-Manager form, excellent executive team, low turnover, 415 FTE in 11 operating and administrative departments. Total City budget is $70M. The community values its schools, cultural institutions, economic vitality and hometown spirit. Scope of the position includes contracts and franchises, labor and employment law, land use, real estate, environmental law, constitutional law, ordinances and codes, intergovernmental agreements as well as directing prosecution, litigation and outside counsel. Salary competitive in metro area, DOQ, plus excellent benefit package. Juris Doctor or equivalent from ABA accredited law school. Must be licensed in Colorado on date of appointment. Minimum 5 years experience in municipal law, chief counsel or high level responsibility in a comparable public setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Clear communicator, teamwork orientation, strengths in facilitating the legislative process, parliamentary procedure, initiative and referenda, open meetings, open records and TABOR. Skills in intergovernmental relations, interpersonal relations and office management.
