League City is a dynamic community that operates under a Mayor-Council form of government with an appointed City Administrator. The Mayor and City Council are looking for an experienced, modern City Administrator to provide leadership to the City staff and to take the City to the next level.
The successful candidate for City Administrator of the City of League City will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or a related field. A Master’s degree in Public Administration or a related field is preferred. In addition, the successful individual is required to possess at least ten (10) years of experience in public administration or a related field.
The City Administrator of the City of League City shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to the confirmation by the City Council and may be discharged by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. The salary of the City Administrator shall be set by the City Council.
The City Administrator shall be the head of the administrative departments of the city and shall be the supervisor of all administrative officers and employees including, but not limited to, directors and department heads. It is required that the City Administrator for the City be a resident of the City or become a resident of the City within six months from the date of his/her appointment.
Located in southeastern Texas, League City is 25 miles north of Galveston and 5 miles south of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States. With a current population of 68,504, League City is located on the south shore of 1,750 acre Clear Lake, directly across from NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
League City has been listed as one of America’s Top Rated Smaller Cities by Grey House Publications. The publication contains 100 top-rated smaller cities in America with populations of 25,000 to 99,000. Other Texas cities include Coppell, Flower Mound, Rowlett (Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs) and Round Rock (Austin). Ratings are based on unemployment levels, crime rate, growth history and household income.
League City is in the north central part of Galveston County and part of Harris County, five miles south of the city limits of Houston. League City was formally incorporated on December 8, 1961 and adopted its Home Rule Charter on March 27, 1962. League City is in the process of calling a Charter Amendment election for May 2010. Along with various housekeeping items, the election may include propositions on Single Member Districts, Council/Manager form of government and recall procedures.
The governing body of the City of League City is the Mayor and City Council. There are seven City Council positions designated as Council Positions 1-7. The City of League City is a full-service City government. The League City annual operating budget for FY 2009 is $97,043 million. There are 440 FTE City employees. The City has an AAA bond rating.
The starting salary for the new City Administrator of the City of League City will be market competitive depending upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. In addition, a competitive benefits package will be provided to the successful candidate.
