KENTUCKY LEAGUE OF CITIES

This is an outstanding opportunity to become Executive Director of a progressive organization facing several challenges. The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) Executive Board is seeking a business and results oriented leader to join the board in achieving their vision for the future of KLC.

The successful candidate for the next Executive Director of KLC should possess a demonstrated commitment to professionalism and a clear sense of integrity and commitment to the mission of KLC. Also required is experience working with national nonprofit organizations with at least 10 years in senior management and at least 10 years working in or with local government entities. The successful candidate for Executive Director of KLC should also possess a Juris Doctor, a Master of Public Administration, a Master of Business Administration or equivalent education and/or experience.

Other requirements of the successful candidate for Executive Director of KLC include familiarity with Kentucky’s legislative process, extensive knowledge of the insurance industry, experience managing a budget and staff similar in scope to that of KLC (e.g., $62 million plus budget and 80 plus staff), superior verbal and written communications skills, and extensive public speaking experience.

The Executive Director of the Kentucky League of Cities is appointed by and reports to the KLC Executive Board. The selected person for this key position serves as the KLC CEO and is responsible for long-term planning, administration and management of KLC operational activities, personnel and programs.

The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) serves as the united voice of cities across the Commonwealth of Kentucky in supporting innovation, effective leadership and quality governance.

KLC is a voluntary membership association representing more than 380 Kentucky cities. KLC is overseen by a 17-member Executive Board representing communities of all sizes and is recognized as one of the nation’s most innovative and successful municipal leagues. KLC has a professional staff of 80 headquartered in Lexington, with an office in Frankfort, and loss control staff throughout the state. The annual operating budget for KLC is currently $61.6 million, including more than $54 million generated by eight affiliate businesses.  Fifty-three  members of the KLC Board of Directors develop a legislative agenda each year, review policies and provide feedback on legislative strategy. KLC has just concluded an arrangement with the Kentucky School Boards Association to be the administrator of the Kentucky School Boards Insurance Trust. The starting salary for the new Executive Director of the Kentucky League of Cities will be market competitive depending upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. In addition, a competitive benefits package will be provided to the successful candidate.  Reasonable relocation expenses will be paid by KLC for the successful candidate.
