This is PLANNING DIVISION MANAGER
CITY OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
The City of Kansas City is seeking for its Planning Division Manager a professional manager with proven leadership, supervision abilities and technical planning skills. The ideal candidate should be adept in leading in the application of modern planning principles and practices in a large, complex organization with high development standards and, ideally, an individual who brings successful experiences from their past work in local government long-range planning. The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field supplemented by seven years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning and considerable supervisory experience. Experience in both the public and private sectors is a plus. Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or the ability to obtain certification is desired. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art planning principles and concepts, data maintenance activities/mapping and interface with information technology, current literature and recent developments in the field of planning, and ability to prepare budgets and provide fiscal analysis of proposals. In addition, the successful candidate will possess excellent large area planning and small neighborhood planning experience, general knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning, ability to effectively review projects, ability to effectively track trends in long-range planning, knowledge of development trends, issues and their ramifications, ability to manage change, a fresh, pragmatic perspective with the ability to redefine advanced planning activities, organize and assign staff and accomplish work in a timely manner, and excellent speaking and writing skills. The starting salary is expected to be in the $90,000 to $100,000 range. The City provides an excellent fringe benefit program. Reasonable relocation expenses will be paid to the successful candidate. Residency will be required of the successful candidate.
