This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and management to a progressive City Parks & Recreation Department in a community with a high quality of life. The City of Great Falls, MT is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Parks & Recreation Director. The City of Great Falls is seeking a proven, dedicated, visionary, innovative and experienced individual for its new Parks & Recreation Director. The successful individual will also possess as a minimum a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a major in Park and Recreation Administration, or a related field, plus five years of supervisory experience in more than one of the following areas: parks, forestry, aquatics, and recreation administration. A related Master’s degree with equivalent experience would be a plus. Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification or ability to obtain it within a reasonable period of time desired. The City prefers as its new Parks & Recreation Director an individual who has a background as a Parks & Recreation Director, Deputy or Assistant in a large or medium-sized, dynamic city or county, and who is a strong leader, manager and administrator. Experience in the western United States would be a plus. The City of Great Falls Parks & Recreation Director has managerial responsibility for providing leadership and direction to the City’s parks maintenance, recreation, water park, aquatics, and natural resources. The Parks & Recreation Director is appointed by and reports to the City Manager. The City is located in north-central Montana along the upper Missouri River at an elevation of 3,670 feet. The most recent issue of "Cities Ranked & Rated", published in 2004, ranks Great Falls 212 of the top 331 markets in the United States. Malmstrom Air Force Base is the state’s largest military installation and the Montana Air National Guard is located near the Great Falls International Airport. The City encompasses an area of over 22 square miles with a population of 58,000 residents. The FY 2006 overall City budget is $70.9 million and there are 472 FTE City employees. The City of Great Falls Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for the City’s parks and trees, swim pools, City implemented recreation programs,
Community Recreation Center, Multi-sports Complex, Visitor’s Center and Civic Center events. There are 28 FTE, six part-time and 136 temporary staff in the Department. The FY 2006 annual operating budget for the Department is $4.2 million. The starting salary for the Parks & Recreation Director of the City of Great Falls will be market competitive, depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected individual. The expected starting salary range will be in the high $60,000 to the low $70,000, plus a $3,600 annual auto allowance. In addition, the City expects to provide an excellent fringe benefit package to the successful candidate. Reasonable relocation expenses will also be provided to the successful candidate.
