ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER

The City of Glendale is seeking the ideal candidate for the position of Assistant City Manager. The person filling this position will be the second ranking administrative officer of the City. The ideal candidate is an experienced public manager with a breadth of local government experience who has a track record of achievement and a history of collaborating between internal and external stakeholders.  The successful candidate will be an operational expert that can handle all areas of local government from a leadership and operational perspective.  This individual will have a proven record of managing diversity efforts within an organization and be knowledgeable of the specific economic and cultural challenges facing Western region communities.   

A Master’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Management or a related field and ten years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a municipal government organization. Five of those years should have been spent in a municipal management position.

The Assistant City Manager of the City of Glendale reports to the City Manager and is responsible for extensive liaison, administrative and managerial duties serving as the second ranking administrative officer for the City.

Located on the Western edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area, Glendale is a culturally diverse community with 250,000 residents. Glendale is also an exciting sports, shopping and entertainment destination, equally famous for its well-preserved 100-year-old history as it is for blockbuster events and entertainment.

The City of Glendale is a full-service municipality that operates under the Council/Manager form of government in accordance with its charter. Legislative authority is vested in a seven member City Council consisting of a Mayor elected at large and six Council members elected by a system based on geographic districts. While the Mayor and Council are responsible for setting overall policy and goals, the City Manager oversees the day-to-day operation of the City.  The City of Glendale’s workforce is comprised of over 1,925 dedicated employees.

The salary range for this position is $120,538 - $192,861 with placement in the range commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications. The City also provides an auto and cell phone allowance and a competitive benefits package.
