Grand Island is located in central Nebraska with a population of 45,000.  The City of Grand Island is seeking a City Administrator to carry out policy direction for the City established by the Mayor and City Council.  The ideal candidate should possess educational training equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Public or Business Administration or a related field plus evidence of continuing professional development such as that possessed by an ICMA Credentialed Manager. Experience working in the private sector may be a plus.  The successful candidate should also possess a minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible experience in local government administration or management, five years of supervisory responsibility and two years of experience as chief executive official in a city of substantial size. Membership in ICMA is desired.  Any combination of education and experience that produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities would likely qualify. The City Administrator is responsible to the Mayor and City Council for the administrative functions of the Grand Island City government. The City Administrator serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the City and is charged with the day-to-day responsibilities of supervision, coordination and administration of the City Departmental activities. This includes formulation, presentation and administration of the City budget, development of program and policy alternatives and recommendations for consideration by the Mayor and City Council, preparation of staff reports and keeping the Mayor and City Council informed as to the operational and administrative activities and needs of the City. Grand Island is Central Nebraska’s Platte River Oasis, offering tourist attractions, an active trade center, employment opportunities and human service programs to the agriculturally based area population.  Located in the center of the State, Grand Island is accessible to traffic from Interstate 80, U. S. Highways 281, 30 and 34 and Nebraska 2, as well as the Central Nebraska Regional Airport. Grand Island is known as the retail hub of central Nebraska, with an estimated population of over 200,000. The City of Grand Island is a Nebraska City of the First Class with a municipal government organization pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 16 of the Revised Statutes of the State of Nebraska. The City of Grand Island operates under a Mayor-Council form of local government.
