This is an exceptional opportunity to provide leadership and management to a nationally recognized award-winning regional wastewater district. The Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District (GBMSD) is a local government entity established pursuant to the laws of the State of Wisconsin. The District provides high quality wastewater collection and treatment services to 17 local governments, an Indian tribe and two major industries in the Green Bay, Wisconsin, region. The current Executive Director has announced his decision to retire after 24 years of successful leadership and management of GBMSD. The Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District (GBMSD) Commission is seeking a strong, proven, dedicated, visionary, progressive and experienced leader for its new Executive Director. The Commission prefers as its Chief Executive Officer an individual who has a background in wastewater utility management and who is a strategist, manager and administrator. The successful individual will also possess as a minimum a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a major in Public Administration, Business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Planning or a related field. A Master’s degree in the same fields of study is preferred. A manager who has continued his/her professional development efforts is also desired. The ideal candidate should possess at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in municipal or publicly operated wastewater administration/management at a senior level. Experience in a similar-sized organization would be a plus, as would experience in intergovernmental relations and an understanding of issues associated with the operation of a publicly operated wastewater treatment plant and collection systems. The Executive Director plans and develops the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District (GBMSD) programs, policies and activities; and (as approved by the GBMSD Commission) is responsible for their implementation and ongoing management. The Executive Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer of GBMSD and in that capacity supervises all GBMSD staff through subordinate directors. As Chief Executive Officer of GBMSD, the Executive Director directs the overall organization and requires the incumbent to operationally plan, develop, implement, manage and assess all aspects of the organization’s functions and activities to strategically and practically influence and accomplish GBMSD’s goals, missions and objectives. The Executive Director integrates GBMSD’s role into the life of Brown County Government, the business community, local industry or other arenas within which GBMSD operates and has influence. The mission of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District is to promote public health and welfare through the collection, treatment, and reclamation of wastewater, while assessing stable, competitive rates. In conjunction with others, the organization will encourage pollution prevention and support programs to help ensure that water contaminated by human activity is returned clean to the environment. The starting salary for the Executive Director of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District will be market competitive, depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected individual. The expected starting salary will in the range of $110,000 to $140,000. In addition, GBMSD will provide an outstanding benefit package to the successful candidate.
