CITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA
This is advanced professional, supervisory and administrative engineering work of considerable difficulty managing the engineering construction projects division for the City. Through subordinate engineers, architects, engineering inspectors and administrative personnel, the employee plans, directs, supervises and coordinates the construction of municipal engineering projects. A major emphasis is on developing and implementing policies and procedures to assure success in monitoring the work of engineering and architectural consultants and contractors engaged in the design and construction of a wide variety of City buildings, infrastructure, and related facilities.
The position requires a high level of project management skills and the ability to effectively negotiate with outside consultants and contractors. Responsibilities include the management, via construction teams, of numerous projects simultaneously in various stages of development including planning, consultant selection, design, selection of contractor, construction management, inspection and warranty administration. The employee advises high level City officials and committees regarding engineering construction project needs and project recommendations, establishes goals and objectives, and ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
Qualifications
Applicants must: have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil engineering or other appropriate field; and have at least five (5) years responsible post-graduate experience in the planning, design and construction of engineering or architectural projects or in the construction management of such projects. Possession of a current Certificate of Competency as a General Contractor issued by an agency approved by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals or State of Florida registration as either a Professional Engineer or Architect is desirable.
Compensation
Starting salary range is $65,208 - $94,432, depending on qualifications. Fringe benefits are liberal.
