The Public Works Director is responsible for planning, organizing, budgeting, coordinating and directing the design, construction and inspection of a wide variety of public works engineering projects, with emphasis on utilities; capital improvement projects; architectural design services; the repair and maintenance of streets and structures in the City’s general fund; and related activities. The employee establishes department goals, objectives and work plans, and assures successful achievement through establishment of policies and procedures and the effective utilization of personnel and material resources.
The public Works Director works with elected and appointed officials, other department directors, consultants and contractors, other employees, and the general public. The Public Works Director reports directly to the City Manager.
Qualifications
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or a closely related field, preferably with a Master’s degree in engineering, business, or public administration. Must possess at least seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in a public works department, which included at least three (5) years experience in senior management. Registered PE preferred. Must be a strong leader, a creative thinker, and have excellent presentation skills in a public arena.
Compensation
Salary range is $85,571 - $130,166, depending on qualifications. Fringe benefits are generous.
