The Chief of Police reports directly to the City Manager and is responsible for the supervision and administration of the Police Department. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and a broad knowledge of principles, standards and practices of modern police administration; a Master’s degree would be a plus. Candidates must have a minimum of 15 years of combined law enforcement and crime prevention or related professional career experience of which five years are in top management. Graduates of FBI National Academy and/or Southern Police Institute Police Administration Course are preferred. The successful candidate should have excellent leadership skills, be business-minded, and have excellent people skills. The successful candidate must possess the highest level of personal and professional integrity, character and honesty.
