DIRECTOR OF THE ELECTRIC UTILITY

CITY OF EDMOND, OKLAHOMA

The City of Edmond, Oklahoma, is seeking a Director of the Electric Utility. The Director is responsible for the management, staffing, administration and operation of the electric utility. The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop exceptional work relationships with governing boards, contributing service departments, customers, community organizations and the general public by using his/her expertise.

The position is responsible for operation of a competitive business within the framework of a municipal organization. The Electric Utility is owned by the City of Edmond. The Public Service Center which is part of the Cross Timbers Municipal Complex, contains over 131,000 square feet of conditioned and non-conditioned space. It is also home to Edmond Electric, Public Works, and Water Resources. The service area currently covers 90 square miles with approximately 617 miles of overhead and 657 miles of underground electric lines, 30,000 electric meters, 6,300 distribution transformers and eight substations. The system has grown by nearly 3% per year over the last decade.

Edmond, Oklahoma, is a suburb of Oklahoma City and part of the metropolitan area. Edmond Electric has been part of the community since 1908.

The Director of the Electric Utility is a highly-visible position requiring well-developed people skills along with supervisory, operations, technical, administrative and management skills. This individual must have strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to provide leadership and management of the department.

The City of Edmond operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Edmond is a full service City with 684 full and 45 part time employees. The budget for Fiscal Year 2010-2011 is almost $221 M. Edmond is located just north of Oklahoma City. It is considered the metropolitan area’s most innovative and progressive suburban community.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely-related engineering discipline. The ideal candidate should also possess at least nine to ten years experience in electric utility design and distribution including five years related management experience.

The salary range for the Director of the Electric Utility is $86,227 to $129,341 depending on experience and qualifications. A monthly car allowance is provided as well as an attractive benefits package.
