The City Administration is seeking a highly qualified individual to join a high quality management team in contributing to this progressive community for the future. The City of Durham Finance Director is a key member of the City Manager’s Executive Team. The Finance Director is responsible for the division of accounting services, procurement services, treasury management services, revenue collections and risk management. The successful candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Finance. A related Master’s degree is preferred. The successful candidate should also possess six to seven years in Business or Public Finance including three to four years supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The successful candidate should also be able to provide proof of successful management of a portfolio of at least $100 million. The ideal candidate will also be someone who will possess good knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration, modern financial management methods, principles and practices of governmental accounting and statistics, and of city government organization and functions. The FY08-09operating budget for the City is $355.5 million. The City currently has 2,000 full time equivalent employees. The City of Durham possesses a AAA bond rating from all three major bond rating agencies, one of only 34 such designations in the United States. The current City Capital Improvement Budget is $382.8 million.
