AVIATION DIRECTOR

CITY OF DAYTON, OHIO

 

        The City of Dayton, Ohio is seeking a new Aviation Director to oversee management and development of the Dayton Airport System, which includes Dayton International Airport (DAY), 12 miles north of the City, Dayton-Wright Brothers General Aviation Airport (DWBA), 13 miles south of the City and a Heliport in downtown Dayton.

         Dayton is well grounded in aviation history as the birthplace of Wilbur and Orville Wright’s “flying machine” that was later flown at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Dayton also enjoys the close proximity of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the world-renown U.S. Air Force Museum, the nation’s largest. The airport, in co-partnership with the Dayton Chamber of Commerce, is the annual host of the Dayton International Air and Trade Show, one of the world’s largest.

        The Aviation Department manages, operates the develops the Dayton airport system, negotiates leases, agreements and contracts supporting airport operations and development, sets rates and revenue collection for all facilities under management of the Department and coordinates aviation activities with the FAA.

        Presently, the Department employs approximately 186 staff and has an operating budget of about $47.5 million. The Dayton airport system is an enterprise fund of the City of Dayton and is a self-sustaining operation.

        Future development of the Dayton Airport System is closely aligned with the City’s overall economic development strategy and the new Director will be required to partner with Economic Development, County, Chamber of Commerce and Regional Transit Agency officials to achieve City goals.

        The Aviation Director, as a representative of the City, serves on the Board of the Dayton Air and Trade Show and assists in managing fiscal and operational matters related to the annual Air Show.

        The successful candidate will be required to have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Public or Business Administration, Aviation Management or a related field. Ten years of increasingly responsible administrative and management experience in the public sector, ideally at the local government level, with substantial experience in aviation and support services in an administrative or supervisory role, is also required. Demonstrated career experience in the fields of purchasing, law, Human Resources, labor relations and finance is preferred.

        The mid-point salary for this position has been set at: $96,803 by the City and the Aviation Director’s compensation will be negotiated based upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
