It is the principal city of the Danville Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Boyle and Lincoln Counties.

The City of Danville seeks a highly respected and accomplished law enforcement officer/executive with significant experience in community/problem-oriented policing with a small town/college environment. A college degree with emphasis in criminal justice or a related field is desirable (or equivalent experience) The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the management of a similar-sized, accredited police department with a management style that is open, approachable, and collaborative and will be an effective and transparent communicator both within and outside of the police department. Upon recommendation of the City Manager, appointment to the position of Chief of Police will be made by the Danville Board of Commissioners. 

The Chief of Police shall hold the rank of Colonel.

The City of Danville operates under a City Manager form of local government. The FY 2012 annual budget for the City is $24.9 million and there are 132 full-time and 28 part-time City employees.

The Danville Police Department was approved for its’ second five-year accreditation period in July, 2011. This state-accreditation was performed by the Kentucky Chiefs of Police Association.

The Police Department’s currently authorized staffing includes 33 sworn officers and 2 non-sworn personnel (non-union). All positions except for the Chief of Police are currently filled. The 2011-12 Fiscal Year total operating budget for the Police Department is $2,983,479. The Police Department is housed in a new facility (2010) in conjunction with City Hall. The Department is working in accordance with a Three-Year Plan and a 10-Year Capital Plan.

The starting salary will be market competitive, depending upon the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.  The successful candidate will also receive an automobile and a competitive fringe benefit program. Reasonable relocation expenses will also be provided to the successful candidate.
