The City of College Station is home to Texas A&M University and is a growing community of 81,700 citizens, a land area of 47.2 square miles, with a wide array of residential housing and a diversified high quality commercial base. The City was incorporated in 1938 and is a home-rule city that operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The annual all funds budget is $188,278 million, and there are 865 FTE City employees. The City provides a full-range of municipal services including police, fire, emergency medical services, parks and recreational facilities, library services, street maintenance and construction, public improvements, general administrative services and electrical, water, sewer, and sanitation systems. The City Council is the governing body of the City. The City of College Station is seeking two outstanding individuals to become Assistant City Managers to help the City as it grows and develops in the future. One is a new position; the other is a vacancy created by the promotion of the Assistant City Manager to City Manager of College Station. Both Assistants will be key components of the Top Management Team of the City. One Assistant will provide leadership to the Police, Fire, Economic Development, and Planning & Development Services Departments. The other Assistant will provide leadership to the Parks & Recreation, Public Works, and Water & Wastewater Utilities, plus the functions of Legislative Affairs/Special Projects and Franchising. The City prefers an individual who has a background in city management and who is a strong leader, manager and administrator. The successful individual will also possess as a minimum a Bachelor=s degree from a four-year college or university with a major in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field. A Master=s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field is preferred. An ICMA Credentialed Manager would also be a plus. The ideal candidate for Assistant City Manager should possess at least 10-15 years of progressively responsible experience in city administration/management or in the private sector. Local government management experience in a similar-sized community in Texas would be a plus, as would experience in a growing City and in a university community. Experience with annexation and rewrite of a comprehensive plan would be preferred. The successful candidate should also be willing to make a strong professional commitment to staying in College Station for a significant amount of time to assist the City to focus on and to accomplish its goals. The Assistant City Manager of the City of College Station shall be responsible to the City Manager for the proper administration of all City affairs assigned by the City Manager. College Station City Government is well-regarded as a fiscally-conservative, well-managed and technically-advanced local government. The City is planning to organize into 11 functional departments, including Fire, Police, Economic Development, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Parks & Recreation, Planning & Development Services, Public Works, College Station Utilities (electric utility), Water & Wastewater Utilities, Chief Information Office (CIO), and Human Resources. A portion of each of these departments reports to the City Manager and to each of the two Assistant City Managers. The City is in excellent condition financially and has high quality, highly educated and highly skilled employees. The City of College Station is a vibrant and progressive community. It is rated as one of the safest, most family-friendly places in Texas and consistently maintains one of the lowest crime rates in the state. The City, located in Brazos County, is situated in the middle of a triangle bounded by Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and San Antonio/Austin. The starting salary for the Assistant City Manager of the City of College Station will be market competitive, depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected individual. The expected annual starting salary will be in the range of $115,000 to $125,000, plus an automobile allowance of $500 per month. In addition, the City expects to provide an excellent fringe benefit package to the successful candidate. Reasonable relocation expenses will also be provided to the successful candidate.
