COLORADO MUNICIPAL LEAGUE

The Colorado Municipal League (CML) www.cml.org  is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that has served and represented Colorado's cities and towns since 1923. Currently, 265 of Colorado's 271 municipalities are members of CML and benefit from the League’s advocacy, information and training services.

The League is actively recruiting candidates for the position of Legislative & Policy Advocate. The position will primarily research, analyze, disseminate information, and advocate municipal positions and policies on issues before the Colorado General Assembly, Colorado state agencies, and other public and private organizations for the benefit of the League’s member cities and towns. Additionally, the position will author articles, summaries, or other relevant printed or electronic communications to members on advocacy issues as assigned by the Legislative Advocacy Manager.

The position will develop and maintain relationships with legislators, lobbyists, state liaisons, state agencies and personnel, organizations, coalitions, associations and others to enhance advocacy activities; and represent CML and serve as liaison to specific advisory boards, committees, organizations, coalitions, associations and statewide ballot or initiative campaigns. The position will also be responsible for analyzing information, preparing materials and staffing the CML policy committee and executive board meetings.

Member outreach duties will include researching and writing articles for the CML Newsletter and Colorado Municipalities magazine on subjects of interest to municipal officials, as well as authoring and and/or facilitating publications on subjects of interest to members. The position will participate in CML annual conference program development, workshop program development, membership services, and membership outreach activities; as well as research and respond to inquiries from members, media and others.

The successful candidate will be a team player and possess high moral and ethical standards.  He or she will assist the legislative advocacy team in accomplishing its goals of year-round advocacy, improved organizational synergy with membership services, and enhanced value to CML members.

A Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, journalism, or related field required. A graduate degree is desirable. A minimum of two years relevant experience in local government lobbying or other government related experience is preferable. Experience in subjects pertaining to municipal interests is desirable.

Salary range begins at $66,700 and CML offers an excellent benefits package.
