Charlotte County is on the southwest coast of Florida and encompasses 859 square miles. The current population of Charlotte County is approximately 170,000, and it continues to experience rapid growth. Named "Best Place in the South" by Money magazine first in 1997, the community has received similar recognition from that and other sources almost every year since.
The Director of Economic Development performs highly responsible, professional, administrative and managerial work researching, developing, implementing, monitoring, assessing, and, if necessary, adjusting a comprehensive Economic Development Plan (EDP) that will proactively recruit and assist prospective and/or existing businesses to locate/expand in Charlotte County. Work involves significant inter- and intra-governmental, business, professional association, media, and public contact.
Over the past several years, Charlotte County has been laying the “infrastructure” for economic development. Among these activities has been the rezoning of areas to accommodate business recruitment, establishment of a business recruitment incentives package, the establishment of an industrial park at the airport, and the attraction of a Publix distribution Center.
The County is interested in engaging in a concerted effort to “take economic development to the next level” and achieve significant diversification of its economy.
Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or public administration and at least eight years of relevant experience in economic development or a directly-related field, including at least five years in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
Starting salary is up to $100,500, depending on qualifications.
