This is an outstanding opportunity to become Executive Director of a dynamic and progressive Council of Governments that is the state-designated lead regional organization for a nine county region of North Carolina and is one of 17 regional councils in the state. CCOG’s mission is to be the lead organization to coordinate and facilitate best practice solutions concerning regional growth and quality of life issues and to provide valuable services to member governments in the Greater Charlotte Region. The CCOG Board of Delegates is looking for an experienced, progressive Executive Director to provide leadership to the CCOG staff and to take the Council of Governments to the next level of success.
The successful candidate for Executive Director of CCOG is required to possess a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in the field of Public Administration, Planning or a related field. In addition, the successful candidate should possess extensive experience in the field of Public Administration or Planning including considerable supervisory experience, or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
The Executive Director of CCOG is the CEO of CCOG, President of the Centralina Economic Development Commission (CEDC) and President of the Centralina Foundation. The Executive Director is appointed by the CCOG Board of Delegates. The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of the Board of Delegates for an indefinite term.
The successful candidate will be expected to reside within the nine-county CCOG region within a reasonable time following his/her employment.
The Centralina Council of Governments office is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, the largest city in the State with a 2009 population estimate of nearly 710,000. The City of Charlotte is located in Mecklenburg County with a 2009 population estimate of nearly 914,000. Charlotte is centrally located in the heart of the southeast and has been coined the “Southern Hotspot”.
The Charlotte Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is the largest in the Carolinas and the sixth largest metropolitan area in the Southeastern region of the U. S. Still there is enormous diversity of the region’s communities with some towns in the region such as Belmont, Davidson, Harrisburg and Pineville with populations approaching 10,000. There are many other larger jurisdictions such as Concord, Gastonia, Kannapolis, Monroe, Mooresville, Salisbury and Statesville with populations of well over 25,000.
The Centralina Council of Governments (CCOG), headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, is the state-designated lead regional organization for a nine county region of North Carolina and is one of 17 regional councils in the state. CCOG represents the nine counties of Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union. CCOG represents 70 county and municipal governments and encompasses a population of close to two million people.
CCOG’s mission is to be the lead organization to coordinate and facilitate best practice solutions concerning regional growth and quality of life issues and to provide valuable services to member governments.
The CCOG budget for 2009-2010 is $18.9 million. CCOG has a current staff of 40.
The starting salary will be market competitive depending upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. In addition, a competitive benefits package will be provided to the successful candidate.
