EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY PLANNING

CITY OF BOULDER, COLORADO

 

This active, diverse, university city seeks an experienced professional to provide leadership for the integration and coordination of planning functions and other work groups related to community sustainability.  Boulder is Located 25 miles north of Denver, population 100,000, with a high quality of life, rich culture, extensive citizen involvement and interaction and a beautiful natural setting against the Rocky Mountain backdrop. It has been a leader in open space and land use planning for over 100 years. Home of the University of Colorado and center of high technology industry and scientific laboratories. Stable home rule Council/Manager Charter. Appointment within range of $107,210 to $142,950, DOQ, plus excellent fringe benefits.  Reports to Deputy City Manager, manages current planning and long range planning, collaborates with Executive Director of Public Works to provide planning and development services. As a key member of the executive management team, advises City Manager, departments, Planning Board and City Council on complex issues and projects. Graduate degree in a field related to urban planning, environmental, economic and social sustainability. Extensive urban planning experience and development review, preferably in both public and private sector. Experienced with community efforts involving economic, social and environmental sustainability policy and implementation. Excellent skills in employee management and development, communications, problem-solving. Record of creativity, pragmatism and calculated risk. Proven business savvy and political sensitivity. Prior experience in mature city with in-fill, redevelopment and transit-oriented development. Strengths in management leadership, teamwork and facilitation of management process.
