CITY OF BLOOMFIELD, NEW MEXICO
This is an exciting opportunity to live and work in a dynamic city located near the four corners in Northwestern New Mexico. Bloomfield, Aztec, Shiprock and Farmington make up the four municipalities in beautiful San Juan County. The City of Bloomfield is seeking a highly qualified individual to become its new City Manager and to replace the former Manager who recently resigned.
The Bloomfield City Manager position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or a related field. An ICMA member who subscribes to the code of ethics would be a plus.
A minimum of five to eight years of increasingly responsible experience as a city manager, assistant or deputy city manager in a community of comparable size and complexity (or the equivalent public or private sector top leadership management experience), experience in strategic planning and building a management team, and experience in budgeting and finance. Experience in a community that promotes customer service and constituent services would be a plus.
The City Manager is selected by and reports to the City Council. Residence in Bloomfield (or within a three mile radius) will be required of the successful candidate within a reasonable period of time following appointment.
The City of Bloomfield, New Mexico is in a predominantly oil and gas industrialized area of the State. Its secondary industry is farming, recreation, electrical generation, and tourism. With a diverse population of approximately 7,210 residents, approximately 62% white, 27% Hispanic, and 17% native American. Bloomfield offers a high quality of life, cultural diversity, community commitment to education, natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
Bloomfield is a full-service City that employs a total of 105 regular staff members with an additional 25 temporary and seasonal employees. The FY 2010 budget totals $23.8 million. A Mayor/Council form of government with an appointed City Manager.
The starting salary ($85K - $90K) will be based upon the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. The successful candidate will also be provided with a city owned automobile and a competitive fringe benefit package. Reasonable relocation expenses will also be provided to the successful candidate.
