Situated in South Central Texas, people have been living near the springs and rivers of the area for thousands of years. When Spanish missionaries first explored the area in 1691, they encountered an already thriving community of Native Americans.

The Bexar Metropolitan Water District (BexarMet) was established by the Texas Legislature in 1945 and currently serves approximately 89,000 residential and commercial connections in Atascosa, Bexar, Comal and Medina counties. BexarMet takes pride in having the most diverse water resources in the San Antonio region. The District draws water from six different ground and surface water sources ensuring sufficient water supplies for the future.
