ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF WATER TREATMENT

CITY OF ARLINGTON, TEXAS

The City of Arlington, Texas, is seeking a results-oriented leader to serve as Assistant Director for Arlington Water Utilities. Arlington is now the seventh largest city in Texas. Arlington is located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. It is a full-service city supported by a total budget of $372 million. The City of Arlington has a full-time staff of 2,450. Arlington Water Utilities budget is $110 million.

Arlington=s population has doubled over the past 20 years to its current population of 367,000. This is a pivotal time in the City=s history and Arlington=s leaders are preparing for build out and are strategically positioning the organization to address the resulting challenges of continued growth and service delivery issues that are increasingly complex.

The City of Arlington operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The City has eight Council members and a mayor. Five of the Council members are elected from geographic districts and three are elected at-large. An independently elected mayor serves a two-year term. Department Directors are appointed by the City Manager.

Arlington Water Utilities is responsible for administration and management of the water and wastewater system that serves the 367,000 citizens of Arlington through approximately 98,195 accounts.  Arlington=s water system is nationally recognized for its use of advanced technology and excellent operations. The Department is committed to providing superior service to its customers.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor=s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field as well as five years experience in water treatment and facilities management including supervisory responsibilities or any combination of education and/or experience. A TCEQ A water license is required or the ability to obtain one within one year.  The ideal candidate will be well versed in all areas of local government and be comfortable with a wide range of responsibilities and potential reporting relationships. Demonstrated success in an equivalent role or as a department head and a history of high-impact success with little direction or oversight will be considered favorably.
