The City of Arlington, Texas, is seeking an experienced local government professional to serve as City Manager. The City of Arlington operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The City has eight Council members and a Mayor. The Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Auditor and Municipal Judges. Deputy City Managers and Department Directors are appointed by the City Manager. Arlington is consistently ranked as one of the best managed cities in the nation. The City Manager’s office is organized in three groups (Neighborhood Services; Economic Development and Capital Investment and Strategic Support), each is overseen by a Deputy City Manager.

Arlington is located approximately 12 miles east of downtown Fort Worth and 20 miles west of downtown Dallas. Arlington is the 50th largest city in the United States and the seventh largest city in Texas. The latest census data indicates that Arlington’s population is 365,438.

The Mayor and City Council are seeking an outstanding leader and manager to be their next City Manager. The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration with a related Master’s degree preferred. The successful candidate should show evidence of continued professional development. An ICMA Credentialed Manager designation would be a plus.

The ideal candidate should possess 7-10 years of increasingly responsible experience as a local government city manager, deputy or assistant with operational experience in a city with a population of approximately 200,000 or greater. Large sports complex and university community experience would be helpful. Experience in Texas local government would be a plus.
