The Western Tidewater Regional Jail Authority serves the City of Suffolk, the City of Franklin and Isle of Wight County. These communities are located in the Hampton Roads Area of Southeastern Virginia, a very progressive area of the country. The Regional Jail is used primarily to hold prisoners from each of the member jurisdictions. The Jail is located on an approximately 20-acre parcel in the City of Suffolk. The Jail has 750 inmate beds in approximately 157,000 square feet of space. Total jail staff is 153, with a current annual operating budget of $8.4M. The Superintendent reports to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail Authority Board and is the administrative officer of the Regional Jail. The successful candidate should have any combination of experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, criminal justice, or related field and extensive experience of a wide and progressively responsible nature in public management and administration. Skills needed include strong management, excellent communication, demonstrated leadership, strong integrity, budgetary, decision-making, organizational and inclusive style. Current Superintendent retiring. Salary in the range of $75,000 to $100,000 per annum, depending upon qualifications and experience, plus a competitive fringe benefit program.
