Chatham County and the City of Savannah, Georgia, are located along the southeast coast of Georgia. It is America’s first planned city and founding site of the state of Georgia. With a population of 130,000 residents, 226,000 residents countrywide, it also has many tourists visit each year. The Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) began in 1955 as the Savannah MPC and when legislation enabled joint city-county planning commissions, Chatham County was added. The MPC Board represents Chatham County and the City of Savannah equally. The Executive Director position is a highly responsible management position in charge of planning and coordinating the activities of a planning staff of 28 with a budget of $2.2+M. The Executive Director must possess strong leadership skills, have excellent interpersonal skills and have knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning; knowledge of governmental, political, planning and management processes; knowledge of local government services and their interrelationships. The successful candidate must also have a B.S./BA from an accredited college or university in a field related to management, planning and/or administration and have demonstrated abilities as an administrator.
